Bio

Nancy Gowan is a registered Occupational Therapist and Certified Disability Management Professional with experience working in industrial rehabilitation, mental health, accommodation and stay at work planning. She is the founder of a national health and disability management company offering support across Canada and now into the US. Over the more than 30 years, she has worked in partnership with employers, employees and unions to develop customized strategies that improve employee success, health and productivity. She has presented at national and international forums on accommodation and disability management and regularly contributes to disability management education through workshops and training programs as well as online newsletters. Among her many publications, dating back to 1990, Nancy coauthored a chapter on Ergonomics in Disability Management”

Inclusive Leadership in a Hybrid Workplace

Over 48% of employees are now requesting ongoing work from home arrangements based on a survey of Canadian workplaces completed in 2021. According to the survey workers are primarily seeing hybrid as 4:1 )home: workplace days) while leaders are preferring (2:3 home: workplace days). This session provides practical skills training on how to ensure that you have the processes and tools to support leaders in workplace inclusivity. This session will look at ways to reduce discrepancies and systemic barriers in your workplace. What strategies work to engage and support employees in all locations with all capabilities? Learning outcomes: Identifying systemic barriers in your workplace Engaging employees to maximize capabilities Identifying leadership skills required for true inclusivity Developing strategies to improve employee engagement, inclusivity and productivity.

Supporting Psychological Safety at Work

This presentation/workshop is designed to assist the HR professional in being able to assess the current culture of the organization. It uses standardized surveying tools and proven strategies to develop a Mental Health Strategy for the workplace. The presenter will provide updates on the legal and employment related decisions that impact the workplace Psychological Health and Safety and how to ensure legal compliance. This session focuses on the concrete strategies needed to provide employees with psychological safety at work. The tools provided will allow the HR professional to audit and identify ways to improve employee safety, engagement and productivity.

Developing a Workplace focused on Staying at Work (Full-day)

This webinar/workshop will provide the tools and strategies required to support employees that are struggling with health and productivity concerns. It will review the duty to accommodate legal decisions, the workplace changes that impact productivity and strategies to help employees stay healthy and productive at work. Actual case examples will focus on mental health, episodic conditions, complex accommodation needs. the 2 hour webinar will provide overview whereas the full day program will provide skill development.

Dealing with Crisis Fatigue

Over the past two years we have experienced life, work and health changes unprecedented in our workplaces. The mental health strategies used in the past such as EAP and lunch and learns are not enough to assist employees in staying well. This session will provide practical components of how an HR professional can develop a mental health strategy to support ongoing crisis, and change. This session will focus on practical tools and skills needed to support a languishing team.

Managing an Inclusive Workplace through Accessibility

This program will provide the participant with step by step strategies to assess accessibility, develop tools to improve accessibility in hiring, work accommodations, deployment and career planning. The presenter will provide the participant with tools and resources to assess accessibility. Also the participant will be provided with templates and resources to build accessibility plans, engage the workforce in accessibility and manage budgeting and accommodation tasks.
