Mike has pioneered a number of business units in Mergers & Acquisitions. Each became profitable in the first year of operation. He has also assisted investors and shareholders in the setting up of such businesses in 12 different countries. Earlier in his varied career he served as a church Pastor, and as a University lecturer - teaching modern literature to miners and shipyard workers!
Much of Mike’s experience is at the sharp end of industrial, commercial, and construction businesses. He estimates that he has done site visits to about 2,000 factories in 17 countries, spoken several thousand times in public all over the world - and seen most things that can go wrong, go wrong! His hobbies include rock climbing, long-distance rifle shooting, writing poetry, collecting antique maps, etc., etc.
He is on the board of several charities and was the founder Chairman of ‘Advance India’. Mike is a Fellow of both the Institute of Directors and of the Institute of Sales Management. He has a PhD in English Literature from Durham University, where he is on the Senior Common Room of Grey College. He is Chairman of the International Map Collectors Society.
Mike has contributed chapters to ‘Growing Businesses’ and its sister publication ‘Mergers & Acquisitions’, both published by Kogan Page. His academic work is published by Manchester University Press, Routledge etc. He sat for several years on two EU sponsored committees exploring succession planning for businesses.
All the above make Mike very well-travelled. He has visited over 90 countries and done business or spoken in at least 30. However, he also has travelled for mountaineering, adventure, history and cultural appreciation, charitable and church ministry. He has been held at gunpoint 3 times!
