Hello! My name is Marcella. I am a married mom of two teenage girls (15 and 17 years old - I know, please check on me). We live in Long Island, New York and are a huge lacrosse family! If anyone is looking for me I’m either in a boardroom or on a lacrosse field. I have been in Finance for 30+ years. It’s been quite a ride. From my humble beginnings on Wall Street to becoming the Finance Director of one of the biggest and most prestigious Publishing Houses in the world, Conde Nast (Vogue, The New Yorker, Vanity Fair). 40, 50, 60 hour weeks, trying to climb the corporate ladder and pushing through - no matter what it took (if you have seen The Devil Wears Prada then you know what I’m talking about). My goal in life is the never ending search for work / life balance. I evolve everyday trying to find new ways to do it all. Work, life, repeat! Work, life, repeat!
I crashed and burned back in 2022 when I quit my high paying Corporate Finance job and took a year off. The money didn't matter anymore, my mental and physical health were at an all time low. It was a dark time on so many levels. I have been working to rebuild myself ever since. I continue to use the tools I have implemented to get myself out of bed and back into life. Small steps led to long term happiness and success. Nothing worth doing is easy and it certainly doesn’t happen overnight. I want to share my story with other women regarding the Myth of “having it all”. Instead of putting more on our plates, we need to remove the non-essentials. Women need to start saying no, start asking for help and find time for rest, without guilt. It’s possible because I’m proof of it. It’s an important discussion that needs to be had.
Stress has become the new baseline and burnout has become the new norm. Burnout is not a badge of honor, it's actually a dangerous place for us to be. It's time to talk.
