Lisa was born in 1972 in Starkville, MS, the heart of the Bible Belt. At the age of 20 she attended nursing school, but soon found she was better suited for a faster paced environment and eventually became a paramedic. After her children were born she found her niche as a 911 dispatcher. Throughout the years other opportunities arose and led her to work as an auxiliary police officer, and as an independent contractor working intelligence for different agencies throughout the US. One of Lisa’s dreams was to become a criminal defense attorney, and although large portions of her life were spent studying law and earning her AAS and RBA, both with an emphasis in Criminology, Law, and Society , she fell short of a JD. After moving to West Virginia in 2005 Lisa opened a small clothing boutique, and along with her husband, owned a roofing business. At one point they also owned a large night club, but quickly realized It was not something they wanted to do. In 2014 Lisa accepted a job with West Virginia Department of Homeland Security as a Correctional Officer where she graduated the Academy with a 4.0. Within a year Lisa was promoted to Corporal and was assigned to the prisons Medical Unit and RSAT program where she supervised 3 to 5 correctional officers and close to 100 male inmates. Lisa was eventually assigned to Yard detail where she responded to all emergency calls among other responsibilities. Lisa has also acquired numerous certifications and attended many training classes during her years in public service. While it is undeniable, through her education and work experience, Lisa has acquired not only a vast amount of knowledge, but an in-depth understanding of the prison system in America. Unfortunately, it’s not the tangible certifications, college transcripts, or degrees that qualifies Lisa as an expert on the Issues surrounding Corrections In America, but her 24 year old son, Tristen, who was fatally stabbed In excess of 13 times Inside of Hancock State Prison, in Sparta Georgia. Tristen was only 17 at the time of his crime and suffered from Asperger’s. The neglect, corruption, and violence that led up to his death shocks even the most seasoned officials.
