Kim Ellis is an award winning Australian Lawyer, Scientist and STEM Professional who traded her steelcap boots and hardhat for a Spacesuit. A 2020 Scientist-Astronaut Candidate for the PoSSUM Project (Polar Sub-orbital Science in the Upper Mesosphere), Legal lead for Swinburne University of Technology, Department of Astrophysics & Supercomputing, Space Office in Melbourne, Australia; Adjunct Faculty member for the International Space University in Strasbourg, France and Director of International Earth & Space Technology Pty Ltd. Her unique journey from Mining Research Scientist to Space Law and Research professional has given her the opportunity to pursue her passion; Space, Technology and STEM!

Hardhat, Steelcap Boots & a Spacesuit!

When Kim lost her job as a research scientist with BHP Billiton at the end of 2008, she never imagined how that event would change the trajectory of her life. Fast forward 10 years and Kim is now Australia’s first Sub-orbital Lawyer & Scientist-Astronaut Candidate set to train in the USA in April 2020. Kim takes you on her journey from losing her job to retraining in law and becoming an Astronaut Candidate. In this talk, Kim demonstrates the value of asking new questions will help you navigate life changes with ease and grace.
