Joe Lazzarotti is a Principal in the Berkeley Heights, New Jersey office of Jackson Lewis P.C., an AmLaw 100 national law firm with nearly 1,000 attorneys and offices throughout the United States.
Joe has been with Jackson Lewis for over 20 years. During that time, he has been a trusted advisor to multinational, national, and regional companies in all industries on the broad array of compliance and regulatory mandates, best practices and preventive safeguards. These include data privacy, cybersecurity, and governance, as well as ERISA, employee benefits, tax, fiduciary duty, and related matters.
Joe founded firm's Privacy, Data & Cybersecurity Practice Group more then 15 years ago, and is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) with the International Association of Privacy Professionals. The practice group, which he now co-leads, has more than 15 attorneys. He also is the co-leader of the firm's AI Service Group and a member of its Employee Benefits Practice Group.
With a particular focus in the healthcare industry, his expertise and experience extends to organizations in retail, hospitality, professional services, transportation, education, and others.
The types of work he has done includes:
- lobbied for changes to the ACA rules for wellness programs
- navigated hundreds of organizations through data breach matters, including matters affecting millions of individuals
- guided teams of data privacy compliance professionals through the development of a comprehensive data privacy and security programs
- developed comprehensive written information security programs
- crafted concise yet comprehensive incident response plans
- collaborated with executives to help balance risk, with compliance, with available resources
- support the procurement process for third-party service providers
Joe received his BA in Public Accounting from Pace University in New York, cum laude. He received his law degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, with distinction. He also clerked for the Hon. Laura Denvir Stith in the Missouri Court of Appeals.
