Personal Details

Bio

Jessica Purdy is a Lancaster Pennsylvania native who joined the Army after graduating High School and served with honor until her discharge under Don't Ask, Don't tell. Her personal journey has included several reinventions of self.

From Son & Brother,

to Soldier,

to Husband,

to Career Ladder Climber

to Full Time Childcare Giver

to Daughter & Sister

to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Consultant

to Activist

Through it all she has written poetry. She has explored her darkness. And her light. She has explored the beauty and magic of everyday moments. And she has explored the social and political realities that so many are suffering under.

She has fought for marriage equality, equal protections under the law for LGBTQIA+ community members, sensible gun regulations, and the separation of church and state. As the founder and CEO of FIC Human Resources she is dedicated to Fostering Inclusive Cultures in the workplace. In her home town of Lancaster she has been a founding member of The Lancaster LGBTQ+ Coalition and the First Board President of the Lancaster Pride Association.

She stands against discrimination and inequity in all of its forms.

If her journey, writing, and activism has taught her anything, it is that we can change the world one positive experience at a time.

You Are The Author Of Your Own Story

Too often we allow the stories and narratives that others have of us dictate the way that we live our lives. Jessi is no different.

In this discussion she guides the audience to the realization that we've all given away authorship of our lives at some point, by sharing her own experience of being trapped by the expectations of others. By the end, each person may remember their power and reclaim the right to create the lives they've dreamed of.

Bringing People In: Stories of Coming Out

Jessi, "comes out" by bringing people into her confidence, her truth, and her life. It's an intimate act of trust.

In her discussion she will share stories about the times she's chosen to share her truth with friends, family, coworkers, clients, and strangers. There are times when LGBTQIA+ people are forced out as well. Times when that intimate trust is broken, or never offered. She shares stories of these times as well.

Through her stories you will begin to understand several things. Coming out is an act of courage and trust; LGBTQIA+ community members don't always get a choice about "Coming Out"; Coming out can put employment, housing, heath, and safety at risk.

Culture Drivers: Who Are They And Why Are They Important?

Everyone in your organization has an impact on the culture. Some more so than others. These are your culture drivers. In this discussion Jessi shares examples of culture drivers, the impact they’ve had on their organizations, and why they were able to have that impact. Through this exploration you will learn why being able to identify culture drivers can help foster the culture you desire.

Transitioning To Joy: A Journey To Authenticity

Jessi shares key moments in her transition and the emotional transformation that has resulted from them.

This discussion will help audience members understand and relate to the emotional toll of living in-authentically, as well as the positive impact that acceptance, support, affirmation and living authentically can have on the lives of transgender people.
