How Prejudiced Are You? Recognizing and Combating Unconscious Bias

Overt racism is easy to identify. But what about implicit bias - soft prejudices that we all have, but of which we are basically unaware. In today's heated social and global climate, this lack of awareness can deeply impact your professional and personal life as well as the way you unintentionally communicate and think. It can even have serious economic ramifications, particularly for women.

This presentation takes a deep dive into the subject, where audience members will see how they - regardless of race, status, income or education - have been a victim of unconscious bias.

What Did You Say??? Examining the Way Women and Men Communicate in the Workplace

Workplace conversation is often thought to be a simple exchange of ideas.

Nope.

Conversation within the workplace can be fraught, especially when it is between women and men. There is ample opportunity for misunderstandings and misinterpretations which, in some instances, can impact corporate culture.

This presentation will explore gender-based conversational styles and approach between men and women. In addition, the latest in conversational trends, including non-verbal communication/power poses, mansplaining and maninterruptions, will be examined.

Are You Your Own CEO? The Importance of Personal Branding in Corporate America

Whether you are 25 or 55, having a personal brand is a necessity. Tom Peters was one of the first to discuss personal branding in an article he wrote for Fast Company in the 1990s. Once primarily used by Silicon Valley CEOs, personal branding has evolved into a tool used by professionals, regardless of their industry or level, to highlight and distinguish themselves within a highly competitive global and domestic business market.

This presentation will provide the six steps needed to create a brand. It will also cover how powerful leaders - such as Barbara Corcoran and Sheryl Sandberg - have used specifics of personal branding as professional highlighters.

Social Media as a Business Tool

Social media is much more than social.

Social media has evolved into a tactical business-building and professional enhancement tool. Through knowing how to work the platforms, attendees will learn how to build awareness; network online; and promote their personal brands.

This presentation will focus on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.

The Fine Art of Networking

Networking is an under-utilized tool. When done strategically, it can skillfully generate your "unfair share" of business-building connections.

This presentation will provide step-by-step guidance on how to network with impact; do's and don'ts; and the importance of follow-up. We'll also discuss virtual networking (using social media as a networking platform) and the benefits of cross-generational networking. The discussion will be complemented by in-class exercises that will address two of the most feared networking challenges: how to start a conversation and finding commonality within a roomful of strangers.
