Jason Bair currently serves as the Managing Director of GAO’s Homeland Security and Justice team. In that capacity, he leads GAO’s efforts to support congressional oversight of federal programs and activities to protect the homeland, strengthen the justice system, and respond to disasters and emergencies. This includes a focus on assessing efforts to
• Strengthen the justice system to more effectively address crime, illegal drug use, illegal immigration, and judiciary and prison operations;
• Secure our nation's borders, citizens, and infrastructure against terrorists and weapons of mass destruction;
• Facilitate information-sharing and analysis to enhance coordination among governments, private sector, and communities; and protect critical infrastructure; and
• Increase emergency preparedness and capacity to respond to and recover from natural or man-made disasters.
Prior to joining the Homeland Security and Justice team, Jason served for 24 years in GAO’s International Affairs and Trade team, ascending to the role of Managing Director in 2022. Throughout his time there, he led oversight of efforts to advance and protect U.S. foreign policy and international economic interests. This included analyzing a variety of topics such as countering international terrorism, the development and implementation of U.S. trade policy, strengthening the quality and diversity of the foreign affairs workforce, and supporting U.S. efforts in Ukraine. His work in the International Affairs and Trade team took him to dozens of countries on five continents.
Jason received a bachelor’s degree from American University in Communications, Law, Economics, and Government and holds a master’s degree in public affairs from the University of Texas at Austin.
