James Doty

James R. Doty, M.D. is considered one of the leading experts on the neuroscience of compassion. Having overcome a challenging childhood, he has achieved incredible success becoming a renowned neurosurgeon, neuroscientist, entrepreneur, NY Times bestselling author, inventor and philanthropist.

Doty is a professor of neurosurgery at Stanford University School of Medicine and the founder and director of the Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE) of which His Holiness the Dalai Lama is the founding benefactor.

He is the author of an award-winning NY Times bestseller, Into the Magic Shop: A Neurosurgeons Quest to Discover the Mysteries of the Brain and the Secrets of the Heart which has been translated into 36 languages. Dr. Doty is also the senior editor of the Oxford Handbook of Compassion Science.
