Bio

I’m a seasoned business leader, bestselling author, and sought-after speaker focused on leadership, performance, and the often-overlooked value of irreplaceable talent. Over my career, I’ve held an unusually wide range of roles—auditor, CFO, president, investor, entrepreneur, board member, executive advisor, and podcast host—giving me a rare, end-to-end view of how organizations actually function when theory meets reality.

Rather than following a linear path, my career has spanned nearly every seat at the table. I began as an auditor and finance leader, went on to serve as CFO and president, led business development efforts, became a successful entrepreneur, advised and invested in early-stage companies, and served on boards. That breadth of experience informs my core belief: organizations succeed not because of org charts or job titles, but because of how well they identify, deploy, and protect their most valuable contributors.

I’m the founder and president of the CFO Leadership Council, a global professional association with more than 3,000 senior executives across industries, and chair of the MIT Sloan CFO Summit, one of the world’s most influential gatherings of financial and strategic leaders. While finance leaders are central to these communities, my work consistently reaches beyond finance—into leadership, talent strategy, organizational design, and executive decision-making.

I host the Secrets of Rockstar CFOs podcast, where I’ve interviewed more than 100 senior leaders from high-growth startups to global enterprises. These conversations focus less on technical expertise and more on how leaders think, influence, communicate, and navigate complexity—insights that resonate with CEOs, CHROs, board members, and operators alike.

I’m a senior contributor to Forbes and the most-read author on the CFO Network, writing on leadership, performance, and organizational dynamics. I have been quoted in The Wall Street Journal, Fortune, Financial Times, Forbes, and Barron’s, and I’ve appeared on national television, including Neil Cavuto’s Your World on Fox News.

I’ve written four books: The Rodman Paradox, Secrets of Rockstar CFOs, MBA for Lunch, and The Psychopathic CEO. As a keynote speaker, I blend storytelling, practical frameworks, and real-world experience to challenge leaders to rethink how they define value, reward performance, and manage the people they cannot afford to lose. I speak regularly at leadership conferences, corporate offsites, and executive summits across North America.

The Rodman Paradox: When Your Most Valuable Employee Isn’t Your Star

Named for one of the most misunderstood athletes in history, The Rodman Paradox explores a counterintuitive truth in organizations: your most valuable contributor is often not your highest performer or most visible star, but the specialist whose skills are hardest to replace.

In this keynote, Jack McCullough challenges traditional notions of talent and performance, showing how organizations frequently misidentify value, underinvest in irreplaceable contributors, and over-reward easily replaceable “stars.” Drawing on real business examples, leadership research, and the unlikely lessons of Dennis Rodman’s career, McCullough introduces practical frameworks leaders can use to identify, motivate, and retain their true difference-makers.

Audiences leave with a new lens on talent, clearer insight into who actually drives results, and concrete strategies for protecting the people their organizations cannot afford to lose.

CREATE: A Practical Framework for Modern Leadership

As the CFO role—and leadership more broadly—continues to evolve, technical expertise is no longer enough. In this keynote, Jack McCullough introduces CREATE, a practical leadership framework built around the human qualities executives need most today: Collaboration, Resiliency, Empowerment, Agility, Transparency, and Empathy.

Based on conversations with CEOs, board members, investors, and senior executives, CREATE reflects a striking insight: what leaders value most in their top executives has little to do with finance or technology—and everything to do with how they lead people through complexity and change.

Blending real-world experience, candid observations, and actionable guidance, McCullough shows how leaders can apply CREATE to build trust, lead through uncertainty, strengthen teams, and prepare the next generation of leaders. Attendees leave with a clear, memorable model they can immediately put into practice—regardless of role or industry.

The Psychopathic CEO: An Executive Survival Guide

Charismatic. Visionary. Decisive. In many organizations, the same traits that propel leaders to the top can also mask far more dangerous behaviors. In The Psychopathic CEO, Jack McCullough explores why individuals with psychopathic traits are disproportionately drawn to positions of power—and why corporate environments often reward them.

Drawing on psychological research, real-world case studies, and decades of experience advising executives and boards, McCullough separates myth from reality, explaining how psychopathy differs from mental illness and why these leaders can be so difficult to detect. More importantly, he focuses on the practical question executives actually care about: what to do when you work for one.

This keynote provides leaders with a clear-eyed framework for recognizing warning signs, protecting themselves and their teams, and navigating high-risk environments with professionalism and integrity. The goal is not dia

  • Jack's level of meticulousness was deeply impressive. He took extreme care to understand his audience in India; their cultural sensibilities, market scenario, challenges, and trends. I had the pleasure to work with him for the 17th Edition of the CFO Leadership Summit as a conference producer. Being the opening keynote speaker, he delivered a thoroughly engaging and valuable session on the resilient financial leader. The session was received with great appreciation as the delegates (CFOs, VPs, and Directors- Finance) found it to be inspiring, practical, and valuable. I would highly recommend Jack for speaker opportunities as he comes with profound experience, extensive expertise and the fine art of communication. He is also very kind and amiable.

  • We hired Jack for our financial conference in 2019. One of his strong skills is his ability to engage the crowd, answer questions (even odd ball questions), and take control of with a sense of humor. I was impressed with Jack's ability to energize the crowd, and would certainly hire him for future events. I recommend him, and hope to have him for our next event in 2021.
