Gregory J. Blotnick is an investor, entrepreneur, and author. He is the founder of Valiant Research LLC, an independent research firm. Previously, he was the founder of Brattle Street Capital, a New York-based long/short equity hedge fund. Before Brattle Street, Blotnick worked at Citadel LLC and Schonfeld Strategic Advisors. He brings over a decade of experience in the hedge fund industry.
Blotnick's journey began in 2009 when he joined Doubloon Capital as an equity analyst, launching his career during the aftermath of the financial crisis. This timing proved formative, as he witnessed firsthand how market dislocations create both opportunities and psychological challenges for investors. His early work at Exis Capital focused on fundamental analysis and bottom-up stock selection, skills he would refine at North Elm Capital, where he helped manage a concentrated, long-term portfolio using a "credit approach to equity" strategy that emphasized balance sheet strength and cash flow durability.
In 2017, Blotnick joined Citadel as a consumer sector specialist, working on a team that managed over $1 billion in gross market value. The role demanded rigorous data analysis, rapid adaptation to changing market conditions, and the ability to generate alpha through both long and short positions. His subsequent time at Schonfeld, where he joined a $400 million market-neutral portfolio team, further refined his understanding of risk management and portfolio construction while operating in one of the industry's most performance-driven environments.
In 2019, Blotnick launched Brattle Street Capital LLC, combining the long-term perspective he'd gained at North Elm with the tactical skills developed at Citadel and Schonfeld. The firm focused on identifying opportunities within small and mid-cap consumer companies, particularly those facing either structural headwinds or displaying recession-resistant characteristics. While the venture ultimately closed, it provided crucial insights into entrepreneurship and the importance of psychological resilience in investing.
As an author, Blotnick's acclaimed memoir Blind Spots: A Riches to Rags Story offers a powerful narrative on resilience and self-awareness, earning praise for its candid storytelling and thought-provoking insights. Gregory frequently speaks on how cognitive biases influence financial decision-making and market outcomes, blending real-world investment expertise with hard-nosed pragmatism.
Blotnick is a graduate of Columbia Business School (MBA, 2014) and Lehigh University (B.S. Finance, 2009). He is based in West Palm Beach, Florida.
