Bio

Evan Green is one of the two Senior Partners at Green and Spiegel and is Certified as a Specialist in Immigration Law by The Law Society of Ontario. Evan is called to the bar in both Canada and the United States and is able to practice federal immigration law in both countries. Evan has been practicing immigration law for over 26 years and has extensive experience in all areas of Canadian immigration. Evan has been identified for many years as a leading practitioner in immigration law. Evan is considered a subject matter expert in the field, frequently asked to speak as a panelist, moderator and lecturer.

Evan is a frequent speaker for the following organizations:

The Human Resources Professional Association

The Canada Employment Relocation Council’s Annual Conference as well as their Immigration Symposium;

The Council for Global Immigration;

The Toronto U.S. Consulate; and

The American Immigration Lawyers Association

In addition to being a much sought after speaker on Canadian immigration matters, Evan appears on television and radio and is often quoted by various media outlets in Canada including the National Post, The Globe and Mail, the CBC, Global News and The Law Times.

Within the firm, in addition to his Canadian business immigration practice, Evan manages the U.S. practice for the firm which includes U.S. immigration matters processed from the Toronto office as well as the 4 offices in the U.S. Evan is particularly skilled at navigating cross-border issues on either side of the Canadian and U.S. border. Evan’s strong understanding of the nuances of Canada/U.S. cross borders issues allows him to provide clear and quick counsel to many companies with business interests in both Canada and the U.S. Evan is a member of the American Immigration Association and, over the years, has held numerous executive positions in the Canadian Chapter including President. Evan also is a leading practitioner in the area of U.S. consular processing and is considered the “go to guy” for many U.S. attorneys who contact Evan on a regular basis regarding processing at the U.S. Consulates in Canada as well as a multitude of issues related to Canada/U.S. border issues.

In addition to his cross border subspecialty, Evan’s expertise includes all areas of Canadian business immigration law, specializing in corporate employee transfers, federal skilled worker applications, investor applications, work permits, and the Temporary Foreign Worker Program. Evan also has particular expertise in USMCA and CETA work permits, work permit approvals for strategic, expert and key professional employees and high level executives.

10 Tools You Need in Your Canadian Work Permit Toolbox

Canadian immigration laws permit numerous options for bringing foreign workers to Canada. In some situations, there is a multitude of tools available for human resource professionals to utilize and the challenge is to choose the simplest and fastest route to get the job done. In other situations, there may only be one tool and there is no choice in how we go about getting the foreign worker to Canada. Which is the best work permit to choose? What to do when the foreign worker has a criminal record? Once a temporary foreign worker has been hired, 25% of hires will be audited by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC). What can an employer do to ensure that it will pass a Compliance Review? Which tools should you keep handy in your Canadian Work Permit Toolbox?
