Bio

Elly is fast becoming known worldwide as the Parenthood Pioneer for her ground-breaking "Becoming Us" approach to the transition into parenthood.

A Relationship Counsellor and a new mother at the same time, Elly began researching when she and her husband found the "transition" to be more of a whirlwind roller-coaster ride. Through her research and work with clients, Elly discovered that MOST new parents were being whiplashed by unexpected changes and challenges - leaving couples stressed, stretched and struggling.

She wondered why nobody was preparing parents for all this.

Fast forward 20 years and Elly is sharing her ground-breaking 8 stage Becoming Us approach with parents, professionals and organisations worldwide. Becoming Us classes for expecting and new parents are starting to spring up all over the place. Elly's mission is to equip parents with what they need to embark on the parenthood adventure and to support couples to grow the happy, healthy, loving family that they dream about along the way.

Elly’s work has been compared to "Brene Brown’s Daring Way, but for new parents". A “warm and generous” speaker, Elly's presentations are “a revelation.”

Becoming Us

This signature talk walks you through Elly’s groundbreaking research into the challenging transition into parenthood. Did you know 92% of parents report increased conflict in the first year after baby? Or that 67% report a decline in relationship satisfaction in the first three? Elly has discovered that these statistics obscure a deeper truth: there are stages in the transition into parenthood and challenges in each stage that parents need to be equipped for. In this presentation that can be tailored to parents, parenthood professionals or corporations, Elly shares her biggest discoveries: that while the vulnerabilities of early parenthood can distance partners, there are ways to bring them closer together than ever.

The Love Doctor/Doula

We all know about parent/infant bonding, but Neuroplastic research tells us partners are ripe for becoming more securely bonded to each other during birth and the early postpartum period. There are considerable long term benefits to whole family bonding. In this presentation for birth and health professionals, discover ways to support the couple connection so your clients love you almost as much as they love each other!

Is it Supposed to be Like this?

One in 7 mothers suffer from Postpartum Depression. Postpartum Anxiety is proving to be an even bigger issue with 33% of mothers reporting symptoms. A traumatic birth increases risk for a Perinatal Mood Disorder by 75%. In this presentation, birth, health and mental health professionals can learn the contributing factors, know how to minimise risks and provide solutions, support and resources to give couples the best start for their family.

Dads Get the Blues Too

It's a lesser known fact that 1 in 10 fathers suffer from Postpartum Depression and 17% suffer from Postpartum Anxiety. This presentation for upper and middle managers reveals the contributing factors, the warning signs to be aware of, ways to minimise risk and support coping so dad can be the man he wants to be for himself and his family.

  • Best presentation I have attended in years! The facilitation was a highlight: some teaching and videos, then guided conversation, interaction and practice. Best of all was Elly, filled with hope and help for families that we can practically use. Having her facilitate the conference was far better than just hearing a speaker. Brilliant!
