First ones FREE! Drew Newman is an animator with 18 years of studio experience in the competitive city of Los Angeles. He is currently in his 8th year animating on Bob's Burgers, and has worked on Central Park, Mad: the Animated Series, and Metalocalypse at studios such as Warner Brothers and Titmouse. He was Animation Director for three years for the U.S. Army's S.H.A.R.P. branch, directing a small crew on sexual harassment prevention training videos. He has freelanced for over 30 different clients, most notably Bleacher Report, a gig he got because he posted his demo reel to reddit.
Drew hails from Cincinnati, Ohio, and went to Savannah College of Art and Design. He drove to Los Angeles and forged a career by fulfilling the three traits an artist needs to succeed: Create good work, turn it in on time, and have an agreeable personality. A willingness to find work in the strangest of places and a dedication to improving his craft have kept him employed as a 2D animator for nearly two decades. When in a leadership position, he prefers a "coaching" style to bring out the best in everyone around him.
He has over a decade of public speaking experience. He's spoken to rooms full of students at LA colleges, reviewed student portfolios at CTN and other expos, ran the Animators Committee in his union, Local 839, for 5 years, was a member of his union's negotiations committee for two cycles, and has spoken at and reviewed student work for BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ organizations such as Rise Up Animation and Warner Brothers' "LGBT Models of Pride" Youth Fair at USC. He was also mentee with Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters LA from 2009-2015.
