  • I had the pleasure to have Ms. Brown Barber not only as my supervisor, but also as a mentor. Since I met her, she made an enormous impression with the knowledge that she has about business and interviewing. Ms. Brown Barber helped me through some tough times by helping me focus on what my goals were for those specific situations I was in. She also gave me feedback on how I interviewed for a job placement. This was especially helpful to me because it helped me understand what I needed to work on to prepare for any job interview. She has pushed me to be the best that I can be and has influenced me with her actions. If it were not for Ms. Brown Barber and all the help that she has given me throughout the time that I have known her, I do not know where I would be today. Ms. Brown Barber is a real inspiration to me and has passed on her wisdom to many. I would like to thank her for all her positivity and the guidance that she has bestowed unto me and to let her know what a difference she made in my life.

  • I was fortunate to work under Kim Brown Barber’s mentorship as an intern for the Guardian Scholars (GS) program. During my time at GS, Kim mentored me through the process of creating a basic needs project. The many skills that I learned through creating the project included writing grants, seeking and obtaining funding, and identifying community needs. It was with great support and guidance from Kim that I was able to successfully see the project come to full fruition. Kim taught me that persistence and inner drive are key. It is because of Kim’s guidance that I never gave up and committed myself to push forward. In the end, with lots of hard work and great mentorship from Kim, I was able to thrive and successfully launch the project. It is with great admiration that I write that Kim Barber is an individual who has provided me great mentorship and who continues to be an individual that I admire and look up to.

  • From the day that I met Dr. Kim Barber, she has been super passionate about wanting to see historically disadvantaged college students succeed. Her impact on the EOP and Guardian Scholars Program was innovative and timely, as core staff members parted prior to her arrival. Dr. Kim Barber has personally helped me simply by advocating on my behalf when I was dealing with personal hardship and motivating me to continue on in my collegiate journey. I am grateful for her story because it has inspired me to build upon my story.

  • Kim has continuously been a strong mentor for me for over 3 years. During my undergraduate degree she guided me in navigating the graduate system by presenting me with the Initial steps of the graduate application process, accompanied me through graduate interviews, reviewed my graduate entrance statements, and motivated me in times when I doubted myself academically. Not only did she help to set me up for success to pursue graduate studies, but she also helped motivate me in accomplishing my goals to graduate with my Bachelors Degree in high standing. She was always available during and BEYOND office hours guiding me through life’s obstacles. She stood by my side every step of the way and also held me accountable. Most of all, Kim has kept in touch with me to check in on how I’m doing despite me being miles away. I have been able to consult with her about my career choices in the non profit sector, talk to her about steps to professional growth, and have been guided by her in career development. Kim has always reminded me to keep a positive attitude and to remain strong through the darkest times. She always provides individuals with the tools needed to reach success. She has a strong ability in giving one the opportunity to make a CHOICE and have a VOICE. Kim is extremely equitable and that shows through her actions. She is always committed to serve. She is truly remarkable
