Bio

As a passionate educator with 20 years of experience both in Florida and abroad, my journey has been anything but conventional. It began with a life-changing role as a United States Peace Corps volunteer, where I spent three adventurous years managing a Learning Resource Center and teaching digital literacy. These experiences sparked a lifelong commitment to empowering others through education.

With a Bachelor's degree in Communications and Public Relations and a Master's degree in Adult Education and Training, I’ve honed the ability to connect deeply with learners of all ages. I began as a middle school Language Arts teacher, fostering critical thinking in young minds, before reigniting my true calling in adult education. My dedication to the field earned me recognition as the 2018 State of Florida Adult Educator of the Year and, more recently, as a 2024 JM Lexus Black Achievers' Award in Education Finalist.

As the author of Go Back to School & Get Better, I share practical strategies to motivate individuals to pursue their educational goals and persevere until success is achieved. I’ve had the privilege of presenting multiple times at the ACE of Florida Annual Conference, as well as speaking at numerous South Florida community events to promote the importance of adult education. I’ve also worked with educators across grade levels and post-secondary institutions, guiding them on integrating critical thinking, hospitality, customer service, and technology into their curriculum to inspire students and engage stakeholders.

My story is one of resilience, adventure, and unwavering passion for education. I don’t just deliver talks; I create transformative experiences that leave audiences inspired, empowered, and equipped with tools to take meaningful action. I’d be honored to bring my unique perspective and energy to your next event, helping your organization and its attendees strive toward lifelong success.

Better Than Starbucks!

This presentation focuses on the need for hospitality and customer service as the backbone of effective adult education. By cultivating an environment of warmth, respect, and proactive support, adult educators empower learners to thrive academically and personally. Adult education often involves diverse individuals with unique challenges, requiring attentive care and flexibility—traits inherent to hospitality and customer service.

These principles foster trust, engagement, and motivation, which in turn help learners overcome barriers and achieve their goals. When educators and institutions prioritize hospitality and exceptional service, they create a culture of continuous improvement and mutual growth, paving the way for long-term success in adult learning programs.

Reading+Math-Digital Literacy= Unprepared for the Workplace

Digital literacy is no longer optional—it's the foundation for success in today’s tech-driven economy. This presentation explores how integrating digital skills into adult education equips students to navigate the evolving job market, from mastering workplace tools to thriving in virtual environments. Discover practical strategies to prepare learners for 21st-century opportunities and empower them to meet the demands of a digital world.

Critical Thinking is Critical!

Teaching critical thinking beyond it being just a skill—it’s a game-changer for adult learners navigating the twists and turns of education, work, and life. Think of it as a superpower that helps learners cut through confusion, ask the right questions, and uncover innovative solutions.

Adult learners face unique challenges: juggling family, careers, and personal growth while diving into education. That’s where critical thinking shines. It transforms obstacles into opportunities by encouraging learners to challenge assumptions, explore diverse perspectives, and apply what they’ve learned in practical, meaningful ways.

More than just problem-solving, critical thinking sparks curiosity, fuels creativity, and builds confidence—qualities that set adult learners up for lifelong success. When educators nurture critical thinking, they’re not just teaching a skill; they’re empowering learners to thrive in a fast-moving, unpredictable world.

What's My Motivation?

In this dynamic presentation, educators of all levels will explore how innovative thinking can revolutionize the classroom experience, driving student engagement and motivation. By stepping away from traditional methods and embracing creative approaches, teachers can inspire students to see learning in new and exciting ways.

Thinking outside the box empowers educators to address the diverse needs of their students, keeping them intrigued and invested in their academic journey. This presentation will cover practical strategies, from incorporating real-world scenarios to gamifying lessons, to create an environment where curiosity thrives and academic goals feel within reach.

Join us to discover how breaking boundaries in teaching methods can ignite a passion for learning and transform classrooms into hubs of enthusiasm and success.

The Other Superhero

Adult educators quietly yet profoundly shape the future, one learner at a time. These dedicated instructors empower adults to acquire essential skills, instilling confidence and opening doors to new opportunities. Their impact extends far beyond the classroom—every skill learned becomes a seed for stronger families, thriving households, and vibrant communities.

While K-12 teachers often receive well-deserved recognition, adult educators work tirelessly in the shadows, creating ripple effects of change that touch generations. School districts and organizations have a unique opportunity to honor these remarkable individuals, whose efforts rebuild lives and strengthen the very fabric of society.

This presentation highlights the transformative power of adult education and calls for greater appreciation of those who make it possible. Let’s shine a spotlight on these unsung heroes and celebrate their invaluable contributions to a brighter future for all.

Make the Finish Line Irresistible: Strategies to Combat College Dropout Rates

College dropout rates remain a pressing challenge, but one powerful antidote lies in creating opportunities for connection and inspiration. This presentation explores how planning events—whether they’re career fairs, student showcases, or themed socials—can reignite passion and engagement among college students, fostering a stronger sense of belonging and commitment to their academic journey.

Equally vital is having “the talk”—a candid, motivational dialogue between institutions and their students about the profound benefits of reaching the finish line. From greater earning potential to personal fulfillment, completing a degree is more than a milestone—it’s a transformational step forward. By combining engaging events with transparent, uplifting conversations, higher education institutions can empower students to stay the course and reap the lifelong rewards of their efforts.

How colleges and universities can move the needle, one event, strategy, and conversation at a time.

The Finish Line Matters: Achieving Your Education Goals

This presentation powerfully reminds post-secondary students about the value of staying the course and completing their education journey. Reaching the finish line isn’t just about earning a degree or certificate—it’s about unlocking doors to greater career opportunities, financial stability, and personal growth.

Walking away early may leave students with debt but no credentials and missed chances to fully realize their potential. By staying committed, students set themselves up for success and inspire those around them—friends, family, and even future generations.

This empowering session explores how perseverance and determination can transform challenges into triumphs and why finishing what you started is one of the greatest investments you’ll ever make.
