Bio

Bill Bridges, PhD, is a writer, motivational speaker, business consultant, and coach.

Bill’s early career teaching undergraduate and graduate history courses at the University of Nebraska, Towson University, and American Military University drove his curiosity about how adult learners process and retain information. From there, his work in identifying effective adult education delivery methods led to a focus on instructional design and developing education for Johns Hopkins University. His experience and leadership abilities led to positions as a senior leader delivering scientific educational content and professional certification programs for multiple non-profit organizations.

Even while at the peak of his professional career, Bill realized that although working in helping non-profits achieve their goals was rewarding, his work did not use his greatest strengths. He had long let his talent and passion for writing languish and devoted almost no time to his creative pursuits. He left his corporate role to join his wife in their business consulting practice, The Creative Gameplan™️, published his first novel Blood and Salvation, and began work on the 2nd book in the series.

During the course of his own struggle with career satisfaction, how he expressed his creativity, and search for his life purpose, he became increasingly aware of, and concerned with, the alarming global rise in the suicide rate among men in their 30s and beyond. He committed himself to helping those men (and those who love them) change the way they see themselves. He developed a unique approach to addressing the role of men in society and founded The Creative Man movement to reach at-risk men and give them hope that it is never too late to create a life full of meaningful connections and relevance.

Masculinity at a Crossroads

The term "toxic masculinity" is seemingly everywhere, although it's difficult to find consensus on what the term means, why it's bad, and what can or should be done in connection to it. In this presentation, Bill provides his working definition for toxic masculinity that connect to the challenges facing men, including isolation and depression. He explains what "hope" can look like for men and how each man can, and should define what masculinity means to him.

A Pinhole of Light (is All You Need)

Every year, 33,000 American men commit suicide. Bill Bridges has faced his own depression and suicidal thoughts, but came through them, in large part because of a willingness to face emotions that most men find hard to handle. In this presentation, he explains why men struggle with emotions, why they kill themselves in staggering numbers (even though research shows more women think about suicide), and what each man can do if he feels himself slipping into despair.

The Creative Man

Everyone has a creative instinct, but too many men feel that the price of adulthood is giving up whatever creative outlet they had as boys. What they fail to see is that they pay a price for doing so in the form of depression and anxiety. Bill Bridges discusses how he abandoned his creativity, the toll it exerted on him, and how he changed his life by reconnecting to the creative man inside him. Ultimately, he tells his audiences, it's not too late to be creative, gain connection with the self and with others, and live a life that's filled with joy and hope.

A Procrastinator's Tale, or Where Are My ADD Meds?

Bill Bridges is a self-proclaimed "recovering procrastinator," and he share his personal story about (more or less) overcoming procrastination. He also explains why creatives are more at-risk for procrastination than other people (and why that may be fine), walks audiences through identifying their specific flavor of procrastination (because knowing is half the battle), and how to take small steps towards positive habits that will make massive differences in their lives.
