Bio

Antonella Di Giulio is a pianist, a music theorist, a pedagogue, author and speaker.

From her extra-ordinary life experience she has had the chance to learn about post-traumatic stress, personality disorders and mental health and about how little our society is prepared to deal with such problems.

But she has also taken advantage from these experiences by transforming her life into a wonderful work of art.

In addition to her doctoral studies in Music Theory and Musicology at the University at Buffalo, Antonella Di Giulio holds a Master Degree in piano performance from the same University, post -diploma certifications in piano performance, a diploma in piano from the Conservatory Santa Cecilia in Rome (Italy). As a researcher, her interests are in music cognition, theory of images in music, music as a language, harmonic language in contemporary music, Italian composers in the 20th century, set theory and Mathematics. She presented her research in several national and international Conferences.

She regularly performs as a pianist for a number of associations and festivals , both as a soloist and in different chamber music ensemble. Antonella has been acclaimed for her exciting pianism and for her attention to the quality of sound, and has received particular praise for her outstanding pedagogical engagement. She holds the position of Artistic Director of numerous workshops and Festivals. She is often invited as a guest speaker, teacher and pianist for lectures, workshops, and seminars. She joined SUNY Buffalo State College in 2015.

She is author of "30 Days Time-Out: Journal of a Paused Friendship".

ACTIVATE YOUR OWN DISCOVERY CHANNEL

Successful individuals always seem to be a step ahead and to have new ideas overnight. How does this happen? Is that a special gift reserved to a few individuals?
Each one of us can activate his/her own discovery channel and learn how to use the imagination and the creativity to come up with new ideas and new solutions transforming an entire life into an open work of art.
The concept of open work is pretty simple: it is based on the idea that, within an established framework, information can be combined in unusual ways and create new meanings. Creativity is the most important ingredient in this process, but this ingredient is included in the package we received at birth and it can help anyone, whether they're a student, a businessperson, or anything else.

FROM A TIME-OUT TO A MASTERPIECE

Life is a journey, and each one of us is always on a path towards a future we do not know. Sometimes that journey can seem dark and threatening, especially if you don't know where you're going and you find yourself suddenly in a place you did not want to be.
Antonella invites the audience to her humorous version of turning negative experiences like a time-out in a friendship into life-changing opportunities. The future in our life is in small part a matter a chances and in part a matter of choices. We have the power to imagine and create new realities and to transform every experience in our life into a masterpiece.

WHERE ARE YOU HIDING? The Un-true story about the Lost Self

Sometimes we are not able to find our true self, we feel lost and we start looking around for that lost self. Then we start wearing the mask of roles and labels that somebody else assigns to us. And we might become convinced that our true self is forever gone. because we consider it as an object.
One day, my son was hiding his backpack because he did not want to go to school. He went to school without backpack and in the evening I found it under his pillow.
For many times in my life I could not find my true self anymore. It was lost. I thought that somebody had stolen it. I felt I had a role in somebody else’s movie that I did not like, words in my mouth I would never say.

My false self was doing what I would never do. And yet this was just a mask. That one … it was not me. Where was my true self? I was convinced it was forever gone. Like the backpack.
What is the difference between a lost self and a lost backpack? The backpack is an accessory, an object. We can buy it, break it, bur
