Anthony Qi was born in Buffalo, NY, and raised in Houston in a household that emphasized education, curiosity, and exploration. From an early age, he was encouraged to approach learning with discipline and openness, which helped shape a steady interest in understanding how systems work and how thoughtful decisions are made over time.
After high school, Anthony earned admission to the Business Honors Program at the University of Texas at Austin, one of the most competitive undergraduate business programs in the nation. He pursued a major in Finance with a minor in Spanish, graduating in 2018 with a major GPA of 3.5/4.0. The honors curriculum emphasized analytical rigor, structured case work, and collaboration through demanding group projects.
During his academic years, he also spent a semester in 2015 at the Universidad de San Andrés in Buenos Aires. There, he studied program management while developing Spanish language skills through immersion. This experience broadened his global perspective and reinforced his interest in learning through direct exposure to diverse cultural and institutional environments.
Anthony Qi began his professional career in investing and financial analysis, where disciplined research and careful evaluation were essential. Early internships at Goshawk Global Investments, Nine Ten Capital Management, and Intertek in Shanghai provided exposure to multiple industries and international business settings.
Anthony developed a methodical, data-driven approach to assessing opportunities while learning how incentives, execution, and context influence outcomes. These early roles strengthened adaptability and reinforced the importance of grounding decisions in evidence rather than assumptions.
He later joined Highside Global Management, a $250 million fundamental long/short equity hedge fund, where he spent almost 4 years sourcing investment ideas and managing sector coverage across advertising, transportation, and logistics. His work included identifying market mispricing, improving earnings forecasts, and supporting portfolio decisions through structured analysis and statistical modeling.
Anthony Qi later expanded into software development and product design, applying analytical and financial skills in a technical environment. As the first employee at a startup building research tools for hedge funds and investigative journalists, he helped develop products from initial concept through launch while also supporting client development and partnerships.
Anthony worked on tools that tracked regulatory investigations and industry payments, aligning technical execution with broader strategic goals. His responsibilities included data analysis, UI and UX feedback, client engagement, and business development, reflecting a practical, hands-on approach to building sound systems.
