Bio

Anne-Marie is a Staff Lawyer at The Legal Clinic in Perth, Ontario who is currently working on a Public Legal Education campaign for employers and employees about sexual harassment in the workplace. This project is sponsored by the Justice Department of the Government of Canada. Anne-Marie graduated from Queen’s Law in 2004 and completed her Masters of Law at Osgoode in 2009. In the past 7 years, she has primarily practiced in the areas of employment law, including human rights in employment and Workplace Safety.

Preventing a Culture of Silence by Creating Emotionally Health Workplaces Free of Sexual Harassment

This workshop is designed to give managers, board members, HR personnel and anyone else in a position of authority in their workplace information about how to prevent the development of a toxic work environment where sexual harassment is prevalent and instead take steps to help create a positive emotional work culture. The learning objectives would include: -gaining knowledge about the prevalence of sexual harassment in workplaces in Canada and who is most vulnerable -learning about their legal responsibilities with respect to ensuring their workplace is free from sexual harassment -gaining tools they can use to promote a positive work culture in their workplaces

Breaking the Silence: How to create work culture that encourages employees to call out and report abusive behaviours in the workplace

Statistics suggest that over 70% of those who experience sexual harassment in the workplace do not disclose their experience (s) to anyone, not even co-workers, family members or friends. As a result, they are left to suffer in silence. Worse yet when perpetrators of abuse and harassment are left unchecked the workplace culture quickly becomes toxic. This in turn can have devastating effects on your company's productivity and reputation. As with most things, prevention is the key to avoiding this scenario. My workshop will teach you how to identify early signs of harassment and to address these behaviours before they become harmful and toxic. I will also provide you with useful guidelines as to how to develop policies and protocols that encourage staff to behave appropriately and to report anyone who does not without having to fear repercussions.

Be the Change You Want to See in the Workplace, How to Address Toxic Behaviour in the Workplace Head On

Studies suggest that the most effective way to prevent sexual harassment and other toxic behaviours in the workplace is to provide bystander training to staff. In this workshop I will provide valuable tools for identifying and addressing toxic behaviours in the workplace that can quickly lead to a toxic work culture developing.
