Attachment and Child Development

We are social-emotional beings with an innate need to connect and form meaningful relationships. Every interpersonal skill that is required in order for us to be successful in creating and sustaining these relationships must be learned. The baby/infant brain is primed to learn, attend and absorb. The baby/infant brain is born with 100 billion neurons. And while this is quite amazing, it is only the beginning of the story. What can parents, teachers and mentors do to maximize all aspects of a child's development . . . more than you think!

Desperately Seeking Attachment: How Trauma and Neglect Disrupt Attachment
4 hours
(View workshop agenda)

We are social-emotional beings with an innate need to connect and form meaningful relationships. Every interpersonal skill that is required in order for us to be successful in creating and sustaining these relationships must be learned. Trauma, neglect and multiple disruptions in attachment relationships have a significant negative impact on a child’s ability to learn these interpersonal skills. In fact, many of these children develop defensive strategies to avoid interpersonal relationships. To understand the complex emotional and behavioral problems our children are struggling to overcome, we must know how to create, facilitate and sustain the relationships they need to connect, heal and thrive.
