Dr. Alexa A. Harris is a Communications Consultant with a myriad of experiences in academic, corporate, and creative industries.
While completing her doctoral research focused on Intercultural Communication and Rhetoric, Harris taught public speaking courses to diverse undergraduate students with Liberal Arts and Science majors at Howard University. She especially delighted in providing extensive individual and group coaching for improved performances. Harris merged her interests in Cross-Cultural Communication and the digital space by completing a dissertation about Millennials and Social Media at the age of 25.
Intrigued by her findings, Harris put Communication theories into practice by working at a top management consulting firm. She conducted research to increase intellectual capital for the organization, supported clients in Health, Energy, Environment, and Transportation markets, and won awards for stakeholder deliverables. Harris now helps clients with innovative solutions as an Independent Consultant, Strategic Advisor, and Coach. She also facilitates workshops on Cross-Cultural Communications, Change Management, Entrepreneurship, Intergenerational Issues in the Workplace, Clifton StrengthsFinder, Leadership, Public Speaking, and other Professional Development topics.
Harris has flexed her creative muscles as a Producer and Coordinator for commercials, films, and television shows. Her career highlights include freelancing in the Script department for programs in the variety genre, including the Emmy Award-winning Kennedy Center Honors on CBS, and the In Performance at the White House series on PBS. Harris also merged her love for history and storytelling as an Associate Producer on a documentary about education in the south with Douglas Blackmon, a Pulitzer-Prize winner.
Because of her diverse experiences in academic, corporate, and creative industries, Harris brings a unique toolkit of resources to connect with clients and strategize ways to help them gain a greater awareness of their identity, improve interpersonal relationships, increase productivity, and send engaging messages to audiences. Her favorite quote is "to whom much is given, much is required," and Harris enjoys giving back to her respective communities. When she's not busy helping clients reach their goals, she can be found taking an improv class, globetrotting, or checking items off her bucket list!
